Our Endless Numbered Days Overview
A dark combination of fairy-tale, bildungsroman, and survivalism, Claire Fuller's Our Endless Numbered Days tells the story of Peggy Hillcoat and her father, James, who kidnaps Peggy and forces her to live in the wilderness for her entire adolescence. Oscillating between Peggy's present as a 17-year-old, safe from her father's clutches, and Peggy's past experience in the forest with James, Fuller's novel explores how humankind fares against not only the power of nature, but also the darkness in our own souls. Throughout, Fuller considers the themes of deceit, nature versus civilization, multiple identities, loss of innocence, and trauma.
