Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab is a young adult fantasy novel that serves as a sequel to This Savage Song in the Monsters of Verity duology. The book follows Kate Harker, the daughter of the recently killed leader of North City, and August Flynn, a Sunai monster who plays his violin to reap sinners’ souls for the Flynn Task Force in South City. Kate and August are unlikely friends who have gone their separate ways in the beginning of the novel, but reunite to face a new force of evil in Verity. This novel explores themes of identity, morality, empathy, origins of monsters, and gaining control.
