Ordinary People: A Novel Overview
Ordinary People is a novel by Diana Evans. It takes place over the course of a year, beginning in November of 2008. The story mostly centers around Michael and Melissa, who are in their late 30s who have been together for over a decade. They are black, British, they live in London, and they have two children. Unfortunately, they have begun to experience deepening relationship difficulties, due in part to their dissatisfaction with their roles and responsibilities in the relationship. The novel explores themes of relationships, gender roles, race, dysfunction, and fulfillment.
