In One of Us is Lying, a novel by Karen M. McManus, four Bayview High School students (Bronwyn, Addy, Cooper, and Nate) are wrongfully accused of killing Simon Kelleher, a fellow student. Simon hosted a hurtful gossip app called About That. Police assume that the four planned Simon’s murder together because Simon had information about each of them that he could share with his app. Each of the four students narrates their own story from the time of Simon’s death through the resolution of the case. Themes in the novel include the far-reaching effects of hypocritical judgment, coming of age, and the process of overcoming preconceived notions.
