Notes of a Crocodile Overview
Qiu Miaojin's coming-of-age novel Notes of a Crocodile documents the rites of passage of college in late 1980s Taipei, Taiwan from the perspective of an anonymous lesbian narrator. The narrator's eight notebooks project scenes from her favorite films, first loves, and motley queer friends, interspersed with the story of a mysterious, genderless crocodile figure and political commentary. Notes of a Crocodile grapples with themes of the individual versus society, isolation, and art as liberation.
