Ninety-Nine Stories of God Overview
Joy Williams' short story collection, Ninety-Nine Stories of God, is a series of 99 ultra-short stories, several of them featuring the recurring character of the Lord. While some stories are brief aphorisms or cautionary tales, the Lord is portrayed as an easygoing human who quietly works his way through mundane, irony-laden situations, like going to the pharmacy or trying to adopt a pet. Many of the stories explore humanity's shortcomings, both despite and because of man's desire to be religious.
