"Night Bird" is a sonnet by American poet, teacher, and essayist Danusha Laméris. Originally published in the May 2023 issue of Poetry Magazine, "Night Bird" deals with relationality, distance, and reading the world without assigning metaphoric meaning onto everything. In the poem, the speaker describes natural phenomena (such as thunder and the sound of a bird), and asks the reader to allow them to exist just as they are.
