My Grandmother's Hands Overview
Based upon history, trauma theory, and personal revelation, Resmaa Menakem's My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies provides a first-person guide to healing the individual and the community from the ravages of white-body supremacy. In addition, Menakem draws on his own personal experience providing professional development to police departments to recommend systemic changes to the current models of policing. All of Menakem's recommendations require a serious commitment to calling out white-body supremacy. In great detail, Menakem tackles themes of war on the Black body, the myth of white fragility, and the dire need for police reform.
