My Beloved World Overview
Sonia Sotomayor's memoir, My Beloved World, is the story of her life up to her appointment on the Supreme Court. This memoir, related from the author’s first-person perspective, recounts Sotomayor’s childhood as a poor Puerto Rican growing up in America, her education at Princeton and Yale, and her relationships with her extended family. In a humorous, candid, and conversational style, Sotomayor explores the prejudices faced by Latinos and her own efforts to change the world through her work in the law. My Beloved World examines themes of alcoholism, family relationships, the effects of an Ivy League education, and prejudice, among others.
