Everything you need to understand or teach Motherhood by Sheila Heti.
In Sheila Heti's novel Motherhood, the 37-year-old first person narrator cannot decide if she should have children. Unable to answer the question on her own, she consults three coins for answers. The more often she turns to the coins for guidance, however, the more frustrated she becomes. Fortune tellers and tarot readers similarly complicate her ability to locate her authentic self and true desires. Subverting notions of the conventional narrative plot line, the novel explores themes including motherhood, identity, and meaning.
