Miracle Creek Overview
Angie Kim’s mystery novel Miracle Creek examines the lengths people will go to in an effort to protect the ones they love, as well as their own self-interests. The work begins when a hyperbaric chamber explodes, killing two people and follows the arson investigation and the resulting trial of the mother of a young autistic boy killed in the explosion. At the heart of the novel are the Yoos, a Korean immigrant family who build the “Miracle Submarine” hyperbaric chamber that offers hope and healing to those with chronic medical conditions. As the trial progresses, the novel examines human intimacy, deception, shame, and culpability.
