Minor Feelings Overview
The seven essays collected in Cathy Park Hong's Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning, employ a modular form in order to illustrate Hong's complex relationship with her own racial identity. Written with moving rawness, Hong's essays both expose the United States' violent atrocities against Asian immigrants, and her distinct understanding of her familial and cultural history. Minor Feelings refuses to explain the Asian American condition, instead demanding engagement with themes of minority invisibility and trauma and the search for one's artistic and racial identity.
