Making Rounds With Oscar Overview
In the non-fiction book, Making Rounds with Oscar by David Dosa, Dosa, a geriatrician, was skeptical when he was told Oscar the cat had an uncanny ability to predict when a patient in Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was dying. To satisfy his scientific mind, Dosa began talking to family members with loved ones who had died with Oscar by their side. Though Dosa never solved the mystery of Oscar, he developed a greater appreciation of the cat who had made death so much easier for so many patients and their families. Additionally, he learned more about the challenges faced by families of Alzheimer’s patients. Themes in the book include pets as therapy and service companions, the purpose of end of life care/hospice for Alzheimer’s patients, and life with Alzheimer’s.
