Love and Other Thought Experiments Overview
Sophie Ward's novel Love and Other Thought Experiments is a complex third and first person narrative which melds philosophical theory with science fiction. When Rachel wakes up convinced that an ant has entered her head through her eye, her partner, Eliza, realizes she must choose whether or not to believe the story or lose her relationship. Throughout the novel, the characters attempt to rationalize the existence of the ant, its physical and metaphoric significance linking a network of disparate identities and lives. The novel's atypical structure explores and enacts themes of symbiosis, interconnectivity, and love.
