In the novel Love Marriage by Monica Ali, Yasmin Ghorami idealized her parents’ relationship, which she imagined as a story of true love in spite of their economic differences. Yasmin imagined that her own marriage would be the same. However, life for Yasmin became difficult when her future mother-in-law began to meddle in Yasmin's wedding plans. Then, her fiancé had an affair, and her brother's girlfriend became pregnant out of wedlock. After Yasmin’s father learned about the girlfriend's pregnancy, he disowned Yasmin's brother which resulted in Yasmin's mother moving out of the house.
