Lot Overview
In this loosely connected collection of short stories, author Bryan Washington narrates the life of Nicolás, a young gay man living in Houston and trying to cope with a dysfunctional family. His father leaves his mother for a mistress, his brother deals and uses drugs, and no one is accepting of Nicolás' sexuality. In other stories, a man finds a chupacabra in the bayou, a gay sex worker betrays his father figure/pimp, and a recent immigrant gets a job as a drug dealer's driver. The collection explores themes related to race, family, and community, among others.
