Lies We Tell Ourselves Overview
Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley is a historical fiction book that takes place in 1959 as a school in Virginia begins the process of integration. Sarah Dunbar is one of the few black students who transfer to Jefferson High School, a previously all white academy. Linda Hairston is the daughter of the town’s newspaper editor and one of the strongest opponents of integration. Talley follows the two girls as their lives intersect at school, developing the themes of racial inequality and prejudice, sexuality, tolerance, friendship, and faith.
