Everything you need to understand or teach Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge.
In Katilyn Greenidge's novel Libertie, Libertie Sampson's life and world are defined by her close relationship with her mother, Cathy. As a young Black girl growing up in the 1860s, Libertie's notions of freedom and love are limited to her life in Kings County, New York. Cathy's work to help slaves escape to freedom as well as political changes after the Civil War complicate Libertie's understanding of truth. Throughout the novel, she desperately tries to redefine herself beyond her mother and hometown. The novel explores themes including freedom, love, and loneliness.
