Everything you need to understand or teach Last Things by Jenny Offill.
In Jenny Offill's novel Last Things, the seven-year-old first-person narrator, Grace Davitt, relies upon her mother, Anna, to understand the world around her. Anna makes everything beautiful and steeps every facet of reality in mystery, fantasy, and magic. Over the course of the novel, however, Anna's mental health becomes increasingly tenuous, thus fracturing Grace's sense of stability. Grace must learn how to separate her mother's myths from reality to maintain balance in her increasingly unsettled world. The novel explores themes including innocence, longing, and the power of story.
