Cho Nam-Joo's Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 is a novel about the titular character, narrated by her therapist. Jiyoung is a housewife with a baby when her husband notices abnormal behavior in her that drives him to seek the help of a therapist. Starting at the beginning, the therapist recounts Jiyoung's life in great detail. The novel explores the male gaze, identity, motherhood, sexual harassment, and the glass ceiling.
