Infinite Country Overview
Infinite Country is a novel by Patricia Engel. The story follows a family divided by immigration status between Colombia and the United States. Through flashbacks, the reader sees Elena and Mauro emigrate to the U.S. with their baby, Karina, and have two more children, Nando and Talia, while living in the States. Mauro is deported and Elena sends Talia back to Colombia to be raised by her grandmother. In a present-day timeline, Talia escapes from a reformatory and heads to Bogotá where Mauro has a plane ticket to send her back to the U.S. The novel considers themes related to immigration, regret, and Colombian history and myth.
