Toward the end of World War I, in 1918, as the war and the deadly Spanish Influenza take their tolls around the world, 16-year-old Mary Shelley Black witnesses people seeking solace in seances and spiritual photography. Their desperation and grief force her to look at the world with compassion but also a scientific mindset. Mary Shelley's beliefs are challenged when her first love is killed and returns to her for some peace for his soul.
