In the Lives of Puppets Overview

In the Lives of Puppets is a novel set in a post-apocalyptic future straddling the line between fantasy and science fiction, inverting the classic Pinocchio tale. Klune uses a third person narrative from the perspective of the main character, a human boy born and raised in a small forest home surrounded by only robots and androids, to both critique and celebrate contemporary human society. The novel is set in western North America centuries after all humans have been exterminated by machines, addressing themes of humanity, authority, sexuality, identity, and reconciliation.
