Icy Sparks Overview
Gwen Hyman Rubio's literary novel Icy Sparks is named after its main character and first-person narrator, a ten-year-old girl who lives in rural Kentucky with her grandparents in the 1950s. The primary conflict in Icy's life is an internal one, as she struggles to deal with Tourette's Syndrome, which causes her to suddenly and uncontrollably make verbal and physical outbursts. In addition to exploring the realm of mental health, this novel also explores the themes of honesty, small-town living, and religion.
