T. Harry Williams’ biography of Huey Pierce Long, Jr. is a political scrutiny of the life and career of a Louisiana force of legislative nature during the 1920s-1930s’ Great Depression. Long rose through the ranks of Louisiana Democratic politics building his own power base that gave him legislative control of the state as he became Governor, Senator and aspiring presidential candidate. His presidential bid was cut short by his assassination in September of 1935 outside the governor’s office in Baton Rouge.
