Hot Milk Overview
Hot Milk, a novel by Deborah Levy, tells the story of Rose and Sofia, a mother and daughter. They have traveled to Spain in an effort to obtain a medical diagnosis for Rose. Sofia, who is in her mid-20s, has left her doctoral studies. Without a job or a family of her own, Sofia feels like a failure. As Rose seeks the reason for her illness, Sophia seeks her place in the world. The novel addresses the themes of identity, sexuality, mental and physical health, gender politics, and family.
