Heroes of the Frontier Overview

Heroes of the Frontier, by Dave Eggers, is the story of Josie, a woman broken by life’s experience and her perception of what life is really supposed to be. When Josie loses her dental practice and the father of her children announces that he is getting married, Josie takes her two young children and flees to Alaska where she travels the rugged countryside in a ramshackle old RV. The major themes in the novel include: finding your own magic in the world, accepting the past because it cannot be escaped, and understanding that there is no "normal."
