Girish Karnad's Hayavadana is a reimagined play based on an ancient myth. Kapila and Devadatta are best friends until they meet Padmini, the most beautiful woman in the city of Dharmapura. When they cut off their heads because of her, Padmini begs a goddess to help restore them, but their heads get switched and they return to life mixed up with one another. The play explores dichotomies, illusion, misogyny, religion, and sexuality.
