Hark Overview
Hark is a novel by Sam Lipsyte. The story follows Fraz Penzig, a middle-class married man living in New York City with his wife and two children. Fraz is a disciple of Hark Morner, a self-help guru who has invented a system called mental archery that is designed to help people achieve their goals. As Fraz follows Hark and attempts to derive a sense of meaning from Hark’s teaching, Fraz encounters many familial, economic, and social challenges. The story explores themes of capitalism, spirituality, cynicism, interpersonal connection, and personal fulfillment.
