Raina Telgemeier’s young adult graphic memoir Guts tells the story of a childhood Raina in the fourth and fifth grade, experiencing ongoing and mysterious stomach problems. While young Raina deals with the pressures and anxieties of school, friends, and family, she simultaneously wonders what puberty holds in store for her. Through therapy, Raina learns about the connection between her mind and body, and techniques for how to overcome her paralyzing anxieties and stomach pains. This graphic memoir explores the themes of food is scary, try, and the connection between mind and body.
