Gun Love Overview
Gun Love is a novel narrated by a 14-year-old girl who has lived her entire life out of a car. Pearl and her mother, Margot, have spent over a decade in a Mercury parked in the visitor's lot of a trailer park in the middle of rural Florida. Sandwiched between the county dump and a river full of alligators, the area is full of men who love nothing more than God and guns. When Pearl's mother gets involved with a sweet-talking conman running guns with the local pastor, who is also in love with her, Margot ends up getting shot and Pearl becomes an orphan that must figure out who she is on her own. Along the way, the novel explores America's fascination with violence, mental illness, homelessness, the self, and family.
