Goodbye, Vitamin Overview
Rachel Khong's novel, written in diary format, follows the eccentric thoughts of newly single Ruth over the course of a year. When the novel opens in December, Ruth has recently separated from her unfaithful fiancé. She is still an emotional wreck when she moves back into her parents' home to take care of her father, who has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Khong's novel brings both a tender and playfully comedic tone to such serious topics as infidelity and death. Goodbye, Vitamin offers insight on the fragility of relationships and the subjective nature of forgiveness.
