Godshot Overview
Chelsea Bieker's Godshot follows Lacey May who is a 14-year-old girl living in Peaches, a town in California’s central valley which has been ravaged by drought and the whims of the town’s pastor and cult leader, Pastor Vern. When Vern banishes her mother, Lacey begins her journey to find her and reckoning with the true nature of Vern. Author Chelsea Bieker, writing from her own experiences growing up in California’s central valley and the departure of her mother at a young age, evokes themes of motherhood, sexual violence, and feminist resilience within the novel.
