Give Me Your Hand is a novel by Megan Abbott. The story follows Katherine “Kit” Ann Owens, who feels burdened by a horrible secret that a friend, Diane Fleming, once told her. It is only when Kit’s path crosses with Diane’s again that Kit realizes that her actions negatively impacted Diane’s life, and that she is more like Diane than she realizes. Meanwhile, Diane suffers from mental illness and violent tendencies that she once believed were caused by Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). However, she has had a radical hysterectomy, the only known cure for this disorder, and yet she still hurts and kills other people. Themes in the novel include the interconnectedness of lives, the nature of competition, and gender dynamics in the workplace.
