Girls on Fire: A Novel Overview
Robin Wasserman’s Girls on Fire is a feminist spin on a high school murder mystery. The novel is set in small town America circa 1991 and is told from the alternating perspectives of two best friends, Lacey and Dex. The two meet after their classmate seemingly kills himself in the woods outside Battle Creek. The town is infected with Satanic Panic, but the girls know that there is more to the story than what can be seen on the surface. The novel explores themes such as girlhood, sexuality, responsibility, and the nature of storytelling.
