Everything you need to understand or teach Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar.
Louis Sachar’s Fuzzy Mud is a middle grade novel about an environmental catastrophe. The mad scientist Jonathan Fitzman invents a clean-burning fuel, Biolene, and he never suspects that his creation will escape his lab and cause mayhem in the woods of Pennsylvania. But when a seventh-grade bully chases two of his peers into those same woods, the children discover a suspicious, fuzzy mud that gives them a terribly contagious rash. The narrative switches back and forth from the action in the woods to senate committees investigating Biolene and Fitzman months later. As the children fight for their lives and the senators attempt to uncover the truth about Biolene, the novel explores intentions and consequences, goodness and badness, bullying, choice, and family.
