Furia Overview
In Yamille Saied Méndez's novel Furia, first person narrator Camila Hassan dreams of one day becoming a professional soccer player. Despite her determination and drive, neither her family nor culture supports her playing sports as a woman. Her parents' disapproval and her budding romance with a star athlete named Diego threaten to quash Camila's hopes. She ultimately must decide who she wants to become, and the sacrifices she must make to achieve her dreams. The novel explores themes including identity, agency, and love.
