French Exit Overview
In Patrick deWitt's tragicomic farce French Exit, 65-year-old Frances Price and her adult son Malcolm, having lost their substantial fortune, move to a friend's apartment in Paris while they try to stay afloat under their reduced circumstances. They are joined by their cat, Small Frank, who is a vessel for the soul of Frances' deceased husband and Malcolm's father, and find themselves entangled with an increasingly absurd cast of characters. The novel explores themes related to family, outcasts, and the supernatural.
