Flying Changes: A Novel Overview
Flying Changes, by Sara Gruen, is the second novel in the Riding Lessons series. After twenty years, Annemarie Zimmer is still haunted by the memory of a riding accident that killed her horse and almost killed her. Her fear negatively impacts her relationship with her sixteen-year-old daughter, Eva, who begs to be allowed to enter the world of competitive horse jumping. Annemarie, who is nearing her fortieth birthday, also fears her life has no purpose because Eva wants to attend a live-in training program, Annemarie's boyfriend has yet to propose to her. Even if they did marry, Annemarie cannot have more children. Themes in the novel include priorities, overcoming the past, and the difficulties with relationships.
