Firebird Overview
This memoir of growing up gay in America in the 1960’s and 70’s is primarily defined by the author’s consideration of his relationship with his parents, and particularly his mother. In poetic, present-tense narration, the author’s descriptions and interpretations of various events and circumstances explore the different qualities of memory; parent-child relationships; and how it felt to grow up a “sissy.”
