Fire Sermon by Jamie Quatro is a fictional narrative about a woman's gut wrenching guilt over cheating on her husband and her uncontrollable longing to be with the other man. The protagonist, Margaret, marries the first man she ever has sex with, and, due to her strong religious upbringing, is the only man she should ever have sex with. This limitation forces Margaret to question her own faith in God and to explore her sexual desires. She remains faithful until she develops a deep connection through correspondence with a poet named James with whom she has sex. The novel is a portrait of one woman's desires as she fights the very feelings of entrapment she conjures up for herself.
