This novel is the story of 19-year-old Joy, a patient in a mysterious Hospital established to provide care for those unaffected by a similarly mysterious “sickness” that, among other things, destroys an individual’s memory. As the narrative chronicles Joy's struggles to both survive the circumstances of her present and understand the unknowns of her past, it explores themes related to journeys and journeying, to the experiencing and overcoming of trauma, and to mother-daughter relationships.
