Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West: A Novel chronicles the journey westward that Nadia and Saeed undertake from the unnamed country of their birth, which has fallen to violent militants. Through the use of special, magical doors, Nadia and Saeed travel from the Greek island of Mykonos to London and finally to Marin, near San Francisco. The story of their journey is also interspersed with short vignettes of the eastern people’s migrations west and western people’s feelings towards migrants. The novel explores themes of migration, displacement, religious faith, community and home.
