This novel for teen readers is the story of ambitious cheerleader Hermione, whose plans for a successful senior year in high school are almost derailed by a sexual assault and its consequences. Taking several of its key narrative elements from a play by William Shakespeare (“The Winter’s Tale”), the narrative chronicles the determined choices Hermione makes to get her life on track. At the same time, it also undertakes thematically central explorations of the power of trauma to transform lives and the nature and value of teamwork.
