Escaping Peril Overview

Tui Sutherland's fantasy novel, Wings of Fire Book 8; Escaping Peril, is the ongoing story of the dragons of Pyrrhia. In this installment, a SkyWing named Peril has firescales that are so hot she burns everything she touches. As a youngster, the evil Queen Scarlet used Peril as her personal weapon. Everyone came to fear and hate Peril. Peril is now trying to make good choices, but she feels driven to kill Scarlet in order to make Pyrrhia a safer place. Eventually, Peril finds her father, who is briefly serving Peril while under an evil enchantment. Then, Peril makes the first decision she believes to be the right choice without input from anyone else. That decision inadvertently releases an ancient dragon with unlimited power, part of a prophecy the dragonets feel they must stop. The main themes are the power to choose, self-identity, and the tendency to justify actions.
