Everything you need to understand or teach Erasure.
In Percival Everett's novel Erasure, Thelonious "Monk" Ellison pens a parody titled My Pafology under the pseudonym Stagg R. Leigh when he fails to publish his original manuscript. Because My Pafology is a reaction to the publishing industry's stereotypes of Black artists, Monk does not expect the book to sell. When Random House offers him a generous deal for the book, Monk is forced to question who he is as an artist. Monk's concurrent familial conflicts further complicate his protracted crisis of identity. Written primarily from Monk's first person point of view, the novel explores themes including identity, guilt, and truth.
