Everything you need to understand or teach Dragon Hoops by Gene Luen Yang.
In the graphic novel Dragon Hoops, author and cartoonist Gene Yang follows the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons for a season as they fight their way to the state basketball playoffs. Over the course of the season, Gene learns that it takes courage to step onto the court without knowing for sure what the outcome will be. While he agrees the story is worth writing even if the Dragons do not win the state championship, he finds himself cheering frantically as the game comes down to a single free throw. The novel's main themes are the many roles of a coach, racial/cultural prejudice, expectations versus reality, and unfiltered honesty.
