Divorcing Overview
Susan Taubes' Divorcing is an autobiographical novel about the Hungarian-born Sophie Blind, who flees Budapest to live in America at a young age in response to the outbreak of World War II. The novel is told from a number of perspectives with different sections of the novel alternating between the first and third person point of view. Regardless, the novel is told predominately from Sophie's perspective as it focuses on her thoughts and emotions. The novel takes place in a number of settings, including Budapest, Paris, London, New York City, Pittsburgh, and Garfield, and elaborates on themes of womanhood, religion, marriage, and displacement.
