Disgraced is a play in four scenes by Ayad Akhtar. It tells the tense story of a lawyer, Amir Kapoor, whose family is from Pakistan, who is now living in New York and enjoying economic success. He is married to a successful painter who is an expert in Islamic art, but their marriage and their success unravel after Amir Kapoor speaks in defense of a controversial imam after 9/11. As the consequences rain down, the couple cannot extricate themselves from the potent pool of projections and stereotypes, racism and Islamophobia.
