Everything you need to understand or teach Decent People by De'Shawn Charles Winslow.
De'Shawn Charles Winslow's Decent People is a rigid examination of the complex psychologies informing bigotry, racism, and homophobia in the small-town American south. Set almost entirely in the heavily segregated community of West Mills, North Carolina, the novel follows the events which unfold in the town after three of its prominent Black residents—Marian, Marva, and Laz Harmon—are murdered in cold blood in their mansion. The novel addresses themes of racism, homophobia, class, parenthood, and marriage.
